Oscar Evans

A homegoing service for Oscar Evans, age 66, of Newark, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Noble officiating. Military honors will be observed following the service by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to the service at the church.Oscar was born November 22, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Nathanial and Doris (Shine) Evans. He passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).A Vietnam veteran, Oscar proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Yellow Freight in 2008 where he had been a truck driver. Oscar was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and God and his Bible were very important to him. He was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paulette M. (Miller) Evans, whom he married September 30, 1972; four children, James Evans, Fatina Evans, Romel Evans and Demirs (Miranda) Evans; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Nathanial Evans, Arthur Clark, Debra Clark, Kevin Clark, Nadine Mitchell, Timmy Evans and Andre Evans; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pamela and Mary Evans; and a brother, Kenny Clark.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Evans family.
