Ozella G. Welch

A memorial service, celebrating the life of Ozella G. Welch, 93, formerly of Upper Arlington, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in the chapel of The THORNVILLE home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Matt VanWinkle as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Oakdale Cemetery, Marysville. Ozella passed peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 5, 2019, in Thornville, of natural causes. She was born in Columbus, on June 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Pride and Eltessa (Brown) Fish. She was a graduate of Marysville H.S., class of 1942, and retired after working many years for the Ranco Corporation as a secretary. During her years in Marysville, she was an active member of the Marysville Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the church choir. She lived for many years in Upper Arlington, where she belonged to the Arlington Shuffleboard club. Ozella was an avid OSU Buckeyes fan, enjoyed working puzzles and playing UNO, along with traveling and going on cruises. Following her husband’s retirement, they wintered for several years in Zephyr Hills, Florida. She is survived by her children: Darryl (Judy) Welch, Bonnie (Tito) Santiago, Kevin Welch, her sister Idalene Sampson; her eight grandchildren Derek (Kerry) Welch, Kasey (Karen) Welch; Andrea (John) McDonough, Alaina Welch, Julie (Jason) Colon and Jennifer (Charles) Bisignani, Joshua and Jessica Welch; and her 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Derwin Welch in 1997, and her brother Paul Fish. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, Feb 12, from 5:00 p.m. until time of the memorial service at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home, 56 South Main St. in Thornville. The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058.
