MELBOURNE, FLORIDA: Patricia Grover, 84 of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Harbor Hills (Hebron) passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 in Melbourne, Florida. She was born on May 30, 1934 in Shawnee, Oh., the daughter of the late Lawrence and Beatrice Humphrey. After the death of her father, Lawrence, at a very young age, and her mother’s subsequent remarriage, Patricia was adopted by the late Calvin Carnes. Patricia married her college sweetheart, her husband of 62 years, Edward, on April 2, 1955. Together they raised three children. Patricia loved spending time at her lake house in Harbor Hills, traveling, cooking, getting together with friends, and most of all spending time with her family; especially after she was blessed with four grandchildren. She was an exemplary, nurturing mother; an ongoing champion for her children always providing encouragement, instilling in them a strong work ethic, a “can do” attitude and insisting they set high standards for themselves. She cared deeply for others and had a unique way of always making everyone around her feel special. Patricia graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1955, with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. While at Bowling Green she received numerous awards for athletic and scholastic achievements, was a member of the Sigma Alpha Eta Honor Society and the Delta Gamma Sorority. She later completed her Masters Degree at the Ohio State University. Patricia spent most of her career as a Speech and Language Pathologist with the Westerville City School District and later, after her husband retired, they moved to Florida where she worked for Brevard County Schools. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Women’s Center in Melbourne enjoying every moment there with the wonderful staff and clients. Patricia will be dearly missed by all those who knew her, and her surviving family who loved her more than words can ever express: Children Christie (Michael) Idleman, Scott Grover, Brian (Anna) Grover, sisters Charlotte (Ray) Mulrooney, Linda (Ross) Metcalf, brother-in-law George (Pam) Grover, grandchildren Bryce, Kendall, Kevin and Benjamin. In addition to her parents, Patricia was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward, and a cousin, who was more like a brother to her, Jack Daugherty. Honoring the family’s wishes to spend this last precious time with Patricia, the services will be private for the family only. Memorial contributions, if desired can be made in Patricia’s name to a charity of choice. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster.
