A funeral service celebrating the life of Paul E. Packer, age 96, of Thornville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, at the Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will take place in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery where military honors will be observed. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the funeral home, 56 South Main Street in Thornville. Paul was born August 21, 1920 in Thornville, Ohio to the late Homer and Mildred (Kinney) Packer. He passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Fairfield Medical Center. Paul was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a dairy farmer for many years and following his retirement was employed with TC Market. He was a member of the American Legion Post #342 in Thornville, the Amvets Post #51, Frost Riders Snowmobile Club and the National Farmers Association. He was an avid bowler and also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Swinehart) Miller-Packer; four children, Sandra (Donn) Tower of Thornville, Cinda Lewis of Lancaster, Scott Packer of Glenford and Suzanne Packer of Thornville; step-children, Denise Kordack of Lancaster and Ricky (Debbie) Miller of Newark; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Helser) Packer; a son, Jimmy Packer; a sister, Mary Smith; and his beloved dog, Boots. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thornville American Legion Post #342 or to the Amvets Post #51. Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service is honored to care for Paul and his family.
