Phillip Paul Byers

September 20, 1939 — December 19, 2020

Phillip Paul Byers, age 81, of Hebron, passed away on December 19 , 2020 at his home. Phil was born on September 20, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Marcus and Lennie (Phillips) Byers. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Phil was employed for the majority of his career with the Complete General Construction Company as a foreman. He finished his working years with the Kokosing Construction Company. Phil was a proud member of Laborers Local #423 for well over 40 years.

He is survived by his son, Thomas (Kermane) Byers; daughter, Roberta (Harold) Critchfield; grandson, Jacob Byers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorene Mary (Bush) Byers; brothers, Raymond, Marcus, and Vigil Byers; and sisters, Viola Huckabaa and Carolyn Sowers.

Phil knew and affected the lives of hundreds of people in the construction industry. Most of his coworkers either had or were the subject of a good  'Phil Story'.  He enjoyed being known to be somewhat difficult to work with, but the truth was his bark was worse than his bite in most, but not all, cases. The key to earning his respect was as simple as showing up and putting in a good day’s work without complaining or asking when break time was.

Phil didn't want a funeral service or flowers and requested that anyone wishing to remember or honor him do so by looking to their neighbors or loved ones who may be struggling and bless them with whatever may be able to help them.

Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Phil and his family.
