A graveside funeral service, celebrating the life of Rachel F. Powell, 92, of Thornville, will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Jacksontown Cemetery, with David Powell as officiant. Rachel was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 18, 1929 to the late Newton Frank and Dora (Menkin) Foner. Prior to retirement, Rachel worked for many years in sales and community development, along with working as an ombudsman for the State of Ohio. She was a previous board member with the Licking County Humane Society; Lakewood School District board member; volunteered with the Licking County Aging Program; and was a political activist. Rachel lived out her Jewish values. Survivors include her children, Diana (Michael) Barnett, Jean (James) Duke, Lind (Russ) Lopez, David (Sussannah) Powell, Nora Putt, Sara Jo (Arun) Welch, Donna Leigh (Tim) Winkler and Walter (Siobhan) Powell; sister, Mary Rosenthal; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Samuel Powell; and eight brothers and sisters.
