Ray E Gillespie, 72, of Zanesville, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022, at his home. He was born February 9, 1950, in Grand Haven, Michigan, the son of the late Raymond and Ethel (Ralstaff) Gillespie. Graduate of Howe Military Academy, former owner of Lindsay soft water in Zanesville. Ray also worked at the Cabella’s Warehouse in West Virginia for five years prior to his retirement. Active member St. James Episcopal Church where he served as a lay reader and chalice bearer; as well as in multiple leadership roles including Vestryman and Senior Warden for many years. Also active in the Diocese of Southern Ohio where he was a member of the Diocesan Council. Former instructor at S.O.L.I. at Proctor. Ray was also an active member of the Falls Township V.F.D., where he served as the first squad leader for the Emergency Medical Service. Survived by his loving family: his wife Sharon L (Stockwell) Gillespie, whom he married on October 17, 1970, his daughter Wendy Gillespie, his son Jonathan Gillespie; his grandchildren Anthony, Grace, Benjamin, Wyatt, and Jessie; and his great granddaughter Jane Dotson. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022, St James Episcopal Church, 165 N 6th Street in Zanesville, with the Rt. Rev. Kenneth Price as principal celebrant of the Holy Eucharist. The family will receive friends for one-half hour prior to the services.
