Casey Casto

October 13, 1945 — November 5, 2019

A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard (Casey) Casto, age 74, of Thornville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Etna United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Pataskala Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7p.m. on Wednesday, November 13 at the church, 500 Pike Street SW, Etna, Ohio.

Casey was born in Charleston, WV on October 13, 1945 to the late Otis A. and Frances “Em” (Jones) Casto. He passed away peacefully at his residence on November 5, 2019 after his courageous battle with cancer.

Casey was a union insulator with the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators Local #44 for 30 years. During that time, he was also a teacher to the apprentice class and was elected Business Agent for his last five years. After retiring from Local #44 he worked as the Zoning Inspector for Harrison Township for fifteen years and Thorn Township for another two. He was elected president of the Ohio Appaloosa Association as well as served on their board of trustees. He was a member of the former Kirkersville Baptist Church and enjoyed motorcycles, horses, traveling, OSU football, and spending time with family and friends.

Casey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy (Moore) Casto; children, Jay Casto and Terri (Alan) Miller; brothers, Tom (Shelly) Casto and Steve (Kim) Casto; sisters, Donna (Kenny) Wimer, Lynn (George) Snider, Gayle Musick, Patty (Terry) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Connie Casto, Theresia Casto and Pat (Terry) Sassman; grandchildren, Mitchell (Christina) Casto, Matthew Casto, Ryan (Shannon) Miller, Randi (Andrew) Harman, Alisan (Zach) Sammons, Kasey Miller, Coulson Casto, Ethan Miller, Daylan Casto, Boston Casto; great-grandchildren, Gannan and Hadley Casto, Millie and Judson Sammons. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David A. Casto and Paul D. Casto; great-grandson James Ryan Miller, Jr.; nephews, Matthew Jay Casto and Todd Eric Sassman.

The family would like to express a special thank you to his oncology team at The James for their expertise and care of Casey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Casey to The James Cancer Hospital or Hospice of Central Ohio.
