Richard Glenn Crowe

Richard Glenn Crowe, age 91, of Newark, died peacefully at home on Wednesday May 26, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born August 3, 1929 in Pryse, Kentucky to the late Minnie Green Sharpshair.

The day after graduating from Irvine High School in Irvine, Kentucky, Richard moved to Dayton, Ohio where he worked as a tire builder with Dayton Rubber for twelve years. For the next ten years he was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Dayton and in Celina, Ohio in sales, service, and management. In 1969 he moved his family to Newark, Ohio to start his own tire business, calling it Newark Tire Center. The business was located on South 2nd Street in downtown Newark and his partner was Joe Hodge. They sold the successful business and retired in 1986. Richard truly loved knowing and serving the people of Newark, especially the Licking County farm communities.

Richard had many interests. A favorite interest was restoring and refurbishing classic cars, particularly Ford Mustangs. He also restored several houses for resale or rent. He found much pleasure in playing golf his entire life, participating in golf leagues, and playing with his grandsons and friends. Richard enjoyed playing pool, horseshoes, fishing, and growing lots of tomatoes. He also had the amazing ability to fix, repair or build anything anyone wanted or needed. He found great satisfaction in helping his family and others.

Glenn, as he was called by his family, was married on January 22, 1949 to his late wife, Loraine Stevens Crowe, from Irvine, Kentucky. They were married for 66 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Suzie Crowe Villa and her husband Simon of Newark, and Jill Crowe of Newark; three grandchildren, Tony C. Villa of Newark, Anjilla C.Villa and husband Mike McNeil of Mt. Perry, and Adam C. Todoran of Newark; very devoted nephew, Ed Tharp of Huber Heights; as well as several other nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two half brothers, Bobby Reed and Buck Reed; and two half sisters, Haline Tharp and Shirley Snowden.

At Richard’s request, no calling hours or service will be observed.
