Richard Louis Franklin, age 73, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on April 28, 1945 in Newark, Ohio to the late Hiawatha and Frances (Peterson) Franklin.
Rick was a member of Trinity AME Church. He was a journeyman pipefitter and worked at Owens Corning Fiberglas, McDonnell Douglas and retired from General Motors. He was President of the NAACP and a member of the Newark Elks Lodge #821. Rick was also a member of the Elbow Lounge softball team and enjoyed attending air shows, fishing and playing golf. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals fan. He took great pride imparting knowledge to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Jean (Crenshaw) Franklin; three children, Katrina F. (James) Farmer of Wildwood, Missouri, Trimmel L. Franklin of Dublin and Rickeya N. Franklin of Columbus; grandchildren, Nadia and Alea Farmer and Kiah and Kayla Franklin; sisters, Elizabeth Smith of Newark and Frances Franklin of Columbus; brother, Luther “Ben” Franklin of Columbus; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Franklin and Ralph Franklin; and sisters, JoAnn Jackson and Beatrice Franklin.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. A Home Going Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, at Trinity AME Church, 64 East Church Street in Newark with Pastor Bruce Wynn officiating.
