Richard A. Metzger

April 29, 1951 — March 1, 2022

Richard A. Metzger, left this earth to join his heavenly family and friends on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. He was born on April 29, 1951 in New Lexington, Ohio to Joseph and Pauline (Talbot) Metzger. He was a 1969 graduate of New Lexington High School and a Viet Nam era veteran. Rick retired from the City of Columbus Water Department after a 30+ year tenure. Rick loved to golf, play cards, and host family get togethers. He was a generous man with a big heart. He joins the list of heroes by being an organ donor. Rick (aka Dick) leaves behind his sons, Matthew (Cara) and Michael Metzger of Columbus, and his life partner Patricia Robb. He is survived by a brother, Paul Metzger of Pataskala, and two sisters, Bethel Metzger of Westerville, and Rose (Jerry) Emmert of Somerset. He has two stepdaughters, Ashley (Adam) Powers and Megan (Kyle) Gough. His three grandchildren, Brody and Brooklyn Gough and Jackson Powers dearly loved their Hug Monster Grandpa and he them. Equally, Patricia’s mother, Joan Whalen of Westerville, will miss Rick’s sense of humor. Rick also had many nieces, nephews and cousins who were special to him as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ed and Bill, and wife, June. A celebration of life to honor Rick will be held on April 22. Please contact the family for further information.
