Richard S. Bishop

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Richard S. Bishop, age 86, of Newark, will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Daniel L. Fullen officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. Family will received friends at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, two hours prior to the funeral service on Monday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.Richard was born in Newark, Ohio on June 6, 1929 to the late Arthur B. and Ruth (Sprague) Bishop. He passed away at his residence on January 28, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he worked in maintenance and as a welder for Tectum for 42 years. He volunteered for the Licking County Aging Program, where he enjoyed playing euchre. He was an avid Licking Valley sports fan, also enjoyed camping and spending time with his family and friends.Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Frances D. (Eisert) Bishop, whom he married April 26, 1950; sons, Mike (Sharon) Bishop, Jeff Bishop, Jerry (Bobbi) Bishop and Jamie (Tracey) Bishop; sister, Shirley (Don) Mitchell; grandchildren, Cheryl (Ernie), Mike, Nicholas, Mark (Brandy), Sasha, Alexa and Stephanie; great grandchildren, Brandon, Brody, Michelle, Bentley, Milo, Makayla, Peyton, Talen, Lyanna and Jarek; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rick (Joanne) Bishop; infant daughter, Vicky Bishop; brothers, Russ (Juanita) Bishop and Jerry Bishop; and sisters, Marjorie Jones and Betty (Carl) Mick.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Richard to Foundation For Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Richard and his family.
