Richard J. Simmons

Richard J. Simmons, 75, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Knox Community Hospital. He was born May 24, 1947, in Newark to the late Maurice and Beatrice (Willard) Simmons. Richard had a love for listening to music, his favorites included classic country and classic rock and roll, sitting outside enjoying nature, especially in warm weather on his glider, and eating at any time of the day. He attended Creative Learning Workshop with his friends through the week and built many friendships throughout his attendance there. He had an ornery sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew him. He was cared for by the Direct Support Professionals at A Step Up and was considered family by all who cared for him. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Simmons; and the Direct Support Professional at A Step Up, Caregiver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Welsh. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10:00am at Newark Memorial Gardens. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Richard and his family.
