Robert E. Bailey

A graveside service celebrating the life of Robert E. Bailey, age 95, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m on Saturday, January 6, at Wilson Cemetery with Pastor Robert Whightsel officiating.

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, January 5, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Robert was born July 21, 1928 in Westerville, Ohio to the late James and Margarete (Penney) Bailey. He passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Embassy of Newark.

Robert was a glass cutter with the Advance Glass Co. and had also been formerly employed by B&O Railroad and Croton Egg Farm. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and watching the sunrise with a good cup of coffee. His family was his life and he enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He was known to be a friend to everyone he met.

He is survived by his loving family which includes children, James E. Bailey, Myra (Jeff) Whightsel, Sue (Dave) Cunningham, and Debbie (Ken) Branham; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester Eugene Bailey; a sister, Barbara Joanne Simpson; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Bailey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie F. (Whyde) Bailey, on September 16, 2013; and by a son, Larry Bailey.
