Robert Bigi

Robert D. Bigi, 87, of Thornville, passed away Tuesday, 10 January 2012 at Licking Memorial Hospital, in the care and comfort of his wife, Alberta E. Liz (Gould) Bigi, son, Robert W., daughter, Maryann, and granddaughter, Brii, at his side.Additional survivors include his son, Michael, of Newport Beach, CA, daughter, Laura, of Dallas, TX, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, as well as his beloved dogs.Dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, Robert fought a long and courageous battle with illness, his determination as strong as ever to the end. Robert Dante Bigi did not go gentle into that good night.Robert was born August 10, 1924 in Bridgeville, PA, the son of Dante Odino Bigi and Jennie Rose (Knez) Bigi. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, seeing action in the Pacific Theater aboard the troop transport USS Zaurak. He relocated with his family from Harrisburg, PA, in 1964 to become an employee of Newark AFB, from which he retired in 1984.Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Albert J. Bigi, niece Lynn Cord, and daughter-in-law Donna (Prokop) Bigi.Private family services will be conducted at a later date.
