A funeral service celebrating the life of Robert D. Rob West, age 56, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the Church of God of Licking County, with Pastor C. Casey Ingram Fenn officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at the church, 2181 Riggs Road NE, Newark, and again from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service. Rob was born May 17, 1960 in Bedford Heights, Ohio to the late Fred and Norma Jean (Pennell) West. He passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center following an extended illness. Rob was a 1978 graduate of West Muskingum High School. He retired from the United States Army after 17 years of service and held the rank of Captain. He served with the #660 Transportation Unit during Desert Storm. Rob had also been a computer consultant with the State of Ohio, Newark Air Force Base, Cardinal Health and the Longaberger Co. In 2002 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene College. In 2009 he was a liver transplant recipient. Rob attended the Church of God of Licking County, was a proud member of the NRA and enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing guitar and his dog, Lady. He is survived by his wife, Debra Mae (Jerles) West; children, Daniel (Angie) West of Newark, Rachelle (Eric) Wagner of Toledo, Jonathon West and Aaron (Corina) West, all of Newark; three grandchildren, Scott, Adam and Jada West; brother, Freddie (Dawn) West; sister, Pam (J.R.) Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Seaman Michael West in 1977 and Gary Lee West.
