A funeral service, celebrating the life of Robert E. Hanson, 77, of Nashport, formerly of Gratiot, will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 South Main Street in Thornville. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park on Tuesday afternoon. Bob passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born July 2, 1939, in Morgan County, the son of the late Willis Paul and Alta Marie (Hambel) Hanson. He was a graduate of Windsor H.S., class of 1957, had served honorably in the US Army, and worked several jobs in the transportation industry and others. Bob was a hard worker, and in later years earned an Associate Degree from DeVry University. Bob was still working for Weiser Farms at the time of his death. Bob enjoyed sports of all kinds, had played baseball and basketball in school. He loved attending sporting events at West Muskingum, and often drove the team bus for many different West M. teams and events. He is survived by his two daughters: Deb (Russ) Carder of Dresden and Lori Hanson of South Carolina; grandchildren Kristopher (Kendra) Kemp, Kendra (Tim Johnson) Balsley and Matthew Balsley; great-grandchildren Emilee, Mariya, Katelynn, Gage, Grace and Mattie; along with his brothers Richard Dick (Loretta) Hanson of Tucson, Az., David (Jane) Hanson of Bradenton, Fl., Danny (Brenda) Hanson of China Grove, N.C.; the mother of his children Darlene Spires and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Wayne in 2012. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again on Tuesday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The family prefers that memorials be directed to the West Muskingum Athletic Boosters, P.O.
