Robert F. Nels, Sr.

A Funeral Mass for Robert F. Nels, Sr., age 77, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 394. E. Main Street, Newark, with Fr. Jonathan Wilson as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Robert was born in Osage, WV on September 13, 1939 to the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Danish) Nels. He passed away on November 20, 2016 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.Robert proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he worked for the U.S. Government for 30 years. He was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and the Knights of Columbus Council #11665. Robert was an avid Columbus Blue Jackets and OSU Buckeye fan. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, gardening, working in the yard, but most important was spending time with his loving family. He cherished going to his grandchildrens sporting events and family get-togethers.Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Helen J. (Krishock) Nels, whom he married May 18, 1963; children, Cynthia (Donald) Lewis, Christine (John) Wright, Robert F. (Tien) Nels, Jr. and William J. (Kasha) Nels; grandchildren, Ricky (Kaitlin), Melissa, Josh (Hannah), James, Joey, Matthew, Marek, Kassidee, Billy, Kenadee and Elli; great grandchildren, Evan, Carson, Gabriella, Bentley, Aubree, Jeremiah and; sister, Dorothy Bankhead; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Friends may call at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Monday, November 28th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Robert and the Nels family.
