Robert Leroy Romine

A funeral service celebrating the life of Robert Leroy “Bob” Romine, age 86, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Church of God of Licking County with Sister Donna Romine officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the church, 2181 Riggs Road in Newark.

Bob was born July 23, 1937 in Nashport, Ohio to the late Harley Roy “Cy” and Betty Ann (Minnich) Romine. He passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio).

Bob began his career with the Walter Chaney Construction Company in Newark where he was Superintendent. In 1970 he started his own business, Romine Construction, in which he was a general contractor and roofer. Bob was a member of the Church of God of Licking County. He was an active Church of God member for over 60 years as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School superintendent, and had been on missionary work in Cuba and Haiti. Bob was instrumental as a church planner in starting several churches in the area. He was also a member of the Gideons International and the Brick Layers Union. Bob had a very strong work ethic and instilled that in his children.

He is survived by seven children, Mark (Lois), Scott (Kim), Jan (Jill), Rex (Jeannette), Tammy (Scott) Prior, Gary (Donna), and Bart (Holly). Bob and Shirley had 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Sherm (Evelyn) Romine and Dale (Carolyn) Romine; many nieces and nephews; and lifetime friends, Rev. Don (and the late Carol) Atkinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sue (Franks) Romine on August 5, 1999; two granddaughters, Graclyn Romine and Jeri Romine; great-granddaughter, Monroe Romine; and a sister, Iris (Jack) Moran.
