A funeral service, celebrating the life of Robert Woodrow Fown, 82, of Johnstown, formerly of Pataskala, will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Cindee Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Hartford Cemetery in Croton, where military honors will be observed by the American Legion Post # 254, Johnstown.Robert Bob was born in Croton, Ohio on May 22, 1933 to the late Benjamin and Nina (Annis) Fown. He passed away on October 12, 2015 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital.Bob played football and graduated from Croton High School, Class of 1951. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Iceland and Panama during his years of service. While in Panama, Sargent Fown took part in Special Forces training as well as serving as a member of the Presidential Guard. Upon his discharge, Bob used his G.I Bill and became a computer programmer, retiring from State Farm with over 30 years of service. He worked at the Newark Regional Office where he was one of three Roberts working in the computer department and became nicknamed Ralph after the character in the TV Show, The Honeymooners.Bob was a former member of the Pataskala American Legion and the VFW. He was a baseball coach for the South West Licking Little League, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed hunting and working construction projects with his family.Survivors include his five children, Robert (Debbie) Fown of Johnstown, Rodney (Sue) Fown of Grove City, Jackie (Bernie) Comfort of Zephyrhills, FL, Jeff (Dixie) Fown of Severna Park, MD and Vickie Ghee of Pataskala; sister, Onie Riley; 11 grandchildren; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Felty) Fown, whom he married in 1955 and passed away in 2001; sister, Elsie Rhodeback; and brothers, Billy Joe, Boyd, Daniel, Donald, Dwight, Eugene and Herbert Fown.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bob to the S. W. Licking Athletic Association, Attn: Joni Sell, c/o Watkins Memorial High School, 8868 Watkins Road, Pataskala, Ohio 43062.Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 285 E. Main Street, Kirkersville, on Friday, October 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Robert and the Fown family.
