Roma I. Litzinger

A celebration of life and her legacies for Roma I. Litzinger, age 78, of Newark, will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Heath Masonic Lodge, 875 Irving Wick Drive West, Heath. She passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Marietta, Ohio on July 15, 1936 to the late Hugh Braun and Vera (Dobbins) Leasure.Roma worked at H & R Block as a tax preparer for many years prior to having her own tax preparation business. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church; American Legion Post # 85 ladies auxiliary; Newark Eagles Lodge; and the Newark Moose Lodge. She was an avid bowler and was secretary of her bowling league. She enjoyed flowers, birds, playing bingo, going to Scioto Downs, Wheeling Downs, spending time at North Myrtle Beach and was known as Mom to all of the neighborhood children. Most important in her life was her family, especially spending time at their summer home on the Muskingum River. Survivors include her children, Rochelle Huegli, Roberta (Paul) Kneller, Rhonda (Jim) Weese, Robert Litzinger and Renea (Dean) Taylor; sister, Rhea (Lloyd) Philipps; brother, Ronald (Lea) Brown; grandchildren, Sarah, Zachary, Jessica, Elizabeth, Anna Marie, Ashley, Karley, Shawn, Tyler, Ryan, Anthony, Treay, Izabella and Aliviya; sister-in-law, Gwen Litzinger; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2011 by her husband of 56 years, Robert Litzinger, whom she married on September 27, 1955; step-father, George Leasure; grandson, Travis Litzinger; brother, Raynald Brown; and sister, Ruth Wagers. Roma was a strong believer in the gift of life, and chose to become an anatomical donor to Ohio University. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Roma to the American Cancer Society.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, is honored to care for the Litzinger family.
