A home going service, celebrating the life of Ruby Jean Carter, age 63 of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.Ruby was born in Newark, Ohio on December 7, 1952 to the late Robert Lester and Ida Pearl (Sheats) Carter. She went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2016 at Kindred Transitional Care in Newark.Prior to retirement, Ruby was a fraud investigator with the city of Toledo. She attended Denison University and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Newark. She was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football fan and loved spending time with her family and friends.Survivors include two children, Elaine (Emanuel) Sutton and Melvin (Jessica) Long; two grandchildren, Christopher Clark and Andrew Long; eight siblings, Michael Nixon, Robert (Joyce) Carter, Charles Carter, Jasper (Debra) Carter, Phillip (Susan) Carter, Patrick Carter, Gwendolyn Iheme and Phyllis Carter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.The Carter family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio and Kindred Transitional Care for all of the love and care that was provided to Ruby.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Ruby and the Carter family.
