A funeral service, to celebrate the life of Ruth Ellen Buxton, 80, of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Claude Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.Ruth was born in Thurston, Ohio on November 7, 1934 to the late John and Lucille (Lucas) Thrush. She passed away peacefully at her beloved residence on Granville Street with her caring family at her side.She graduated from Worthington High School, class of 1952. Ruth worked for AT & T for over 21 years, retiring to join her husband in their endeavors. Together, they founded three businesses including the Buxton Tavern and Riverview Condominiums.Ruth was a very blessed lady and was truly the matriarch of her entire family and extended family. She was a wise lady, giving strength and confidence to each, leading by example. She was a master porcelain doll maker, belonging to the Old Canal Doll Club for many years. She has made in excess of 300 dolls which were of all sizes up to Lady Grace which stands 410. She loved all animals, having three cats and one dog at the time of her passing. She also fed neighborhood raccoons which would come up on her porch.She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, was an avid reading, loved listening and watching the Gaithers and was passionate about decorating for the holidays. She was a devoted homemaker to her husband, children and grandchildren.Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Gerald Jerry Buxton, whom she married on November 7, 1970; children, Dave M. (Betty) Buxton, Amy E. Buxton, James G. Buxton, Dave L. Buxton, and Susan J. (Randy) McDaniel; grandchildren, Christy, Brian, Shane, Robbie, Matthew, Joe, Jerry, and Jenny; great grandchildren, Connor, Austin, Kiersten, Nathan, Alexis, Alicia, Lindsay, Aiden, Kayleigh, Ethan and Haley; numerous other grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and one sister, Jane Stevens.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.Memorial contributions may be made in memory Ruth to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive, Heath, Ohio 43056.Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for the Buxton family.
