Ruth M. Gray

A funeral service for Ruth Maxine Gray, age 90, of Lecanto, Florida, formerly of Newark, will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery.Ruth was born in Holmes County, Ohio on June 10, 1923 to the late Dale and Elizabeth (Clowe) Matheny. She passed away at the Hospice House in Lecanto, Florida on March 7, 2014. Ruth was a former member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Newark. She was a devoted homemaker, enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and loved spending time with her family.Survivors include her children, Millie (friend, Harry) Carson, Dollie (Gilbert) Patton, Elaine (Dale) Smith, Sarah Hoover, Janet (Bill) Jones, Diana (Charles) Roe, Robert Gray, Melissa (Kevin) Turnbill and David (Vickie) Gray; 27 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Gray in 1995; brothers and sisters, Samuel Matheny, Harvey Matheny, Welby Matheny, Mary Raymond, Gertrude McVickers, and Frances Starner; half brother, Willis Clowe; sons-in-law, Ronald Carson, Earl Wright, Edgar Angus and John Hoover; and one great grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ruth to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, 10 Regina Boulevard, Beverly Hills, FL 34465. Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
