A funeral service to celebrate the life of Sam L. Grigsby, 66, of Heath, will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.Sam was born in Newark on April 14, 1949 to the late Samuel L. Grigsby and Margaret (Price) Grigsby-Ayers. He passed away on May 28, 2015 at his residence in Heath while surrounded by his family.Prior to retirement, he was a dispatcher with Strait and Lamp Lumber in Hebron for over 20 years. Sam was an avid University of Michigan fan, and especially enjoyed the football rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State. Watching NASCAR and dirt track racing were also his favorites. Sam enjoyed gardening, working around the house and woodworking. He was also known to his family and friends as being ornery and loved pulling pranks on others. Sam had a great sense of humor, knew no stranger and loved everyone he met.Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 21 years, Judy Detty-Grigsby of Heath, whom he married August 28, 1993; Children, Brian (Leslie Donahue) Grigsby of Newark, Traci (Terry) Kirkpatrick of Hebron, Sam Grigsby of Newark, Eric Fenner of Annapolis, MD and Gina (Robert) Pilsucki of Locust Grove, VA; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Kyle) Dixon, Alexander Kirkpatrick, Elijah Kirkpatrick, Riley Yetter, Max Yetter, and numerous other grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Faith Grigsby, Flora (Harry) Walker, Dee Hunter, Betty (Leo) Rovedatti, Roger Ayers, Patrick Ayers and Earl Campfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, James; and two brothers, David and Jim.The Grigsby family would like to thank all of the Hospice caretakers for the wonderful support and care provided to Sam during his illness.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sam to Foundation For Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430.Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Sam and the Grigsby family.
