Sara Ruth Dernberger

Sara Ruth Dernberger, age 73, of Columbus, left this world unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at her home. Sara was born December 13, 1949 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Ralph A. and Mary Alice (Slater) Dernberger.

Sara was a 1967 graduate of Lakewood High School. She was known to be a very independent person and lived her life in service to others. Over the years she was a healthcare worker, EMT, nurse’s aide, and a volunteer firefighter in Hebron. She retired from Newark City Schools where she had been a lunch server, custodian, and worked in building maintenance.

For many years, Sara was an usher for Ohio State at the Shoe and the Schott and was a member of the OSU Rebounders Club. The last game that she worked was the OSU-Michigan game. She also worked for the Columbus Crew Organization in the giftshop. Sara was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Columbus Crew. She loved her dogs, Jack, Gabby, and Boo. She was a “flower child” of the 60’s and enjoyed music and singing and was a member of Hebron Christian Church.

Sara is survived by three brothers, David (Vivian) Dernberger of Hebron, Ralph “Buddy” (Judy) Dernberger of Alexandria, and John (Kimberly) Dernberger of Worthington; nieces and nephews including David Dernberger II, Angela (Matt) Cornett, Hannah Thompson, Austin (Alicia) Dernberger, Lindsay Dernberger, and Evan Dernberger; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive SW, Heath, OH 43056.

At her request, no public visitation or service will be observed.
