Sherman Clay Jr. passed away on October 6, 2013 in Newark, Ohio. He was born in Buckeye Lake, Ohio on March 11, 1931 to Sherman and Mary (Griffith) Clay.Services, celebrating his life will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11:00am at Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service in Kirkersville, Ohio. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 9,2013 from 4-8pm. Memorial gifts can be offered to the American Legion Post 285, Hebron Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn (Ours) Clay. Children Cheryl (James) Maslowski, Rev. Randy (Sue) Clay, Philip Clay, Penny (John) Slater and Glenna (Mark) Jones, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Norma Pillow, Mary Louise Dill, Julia (Jack) Schmeitzel, many brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, parent-in-laws Everett and Zella Ours, brother-in-laws Melvin Pillow, David Dill, and sister-in-law Becky Ours.Sherman was a 1948 graduate of Hebron High School and Korean War Veteran. He resided in Hebron/Buckeye Lake most is life and was a 60+ member of Hebron Lions Club. He retired from Matesich Distributing Co. years ago and operated County Fair Foods, currently Clay's Cafe, in Hebron. For over 45 years he operated Sherm & Mel's French Fries at the Fairfield County Fair.It seems only fitting he wanted to pass away during fair week in Lancaster.
