A funeral service celebrating the life of Shirley Ann Justice, 83, of Newark, OH, will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Craig Burdick officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Sunday, July 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and also on Monday, one hour prior to the funeral service, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Shirley passed away July 5, 2024, surrounded by her family at Hearth Brook Assisted Living. She was born July 19, 1940 in Newark OH to the late Phillip Scanlan and Claudette Hyatt Richards. She was raised by her loving Mother Claudette and step-father Earl Richard, and Uncle Jimmy Richards. She is survived by her daughter, Robin (John Yantis); son, Michael Schumaker (Christine); grandchildren, Melinda Hicks, Brandon Schumaker (Rachel), Brian Schumaker and Tim Hicks; great grandchildren, Alex Hicks, Josh Hicks, Hiedi Flegle, Hannah Flegle and Jase Flegle; brother, Paul Scanlan (Rosemarie); and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents. She was a lifetime member of Plymouth United Church of Christ. She was a member of Licking County Players and also served as the Mayor of Clown Town in 1996 where she loved clowning around. She is retired from the Ohio State University/COTC of Newark. She was a lover of old Western movies, specifically John Wayne and Roy Rogers. Shirley enjoyed musicals, ice cream and bright colors.
