A funeral service celebrating the life of Shirley N. Wolfe, age 83, of Newark, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, at Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis J. Baker officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service at the church, 1415 Londondale Parkway in Newark.
Shirley was born September 29, 1935 in Akron, Ohio to the late Martin H. and Goldie (Tingler) Nelson. She passed away on January 17, 2019 at Newark Care and Rehab.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Akron South High School. She retired from the Newark Air Force Base where she had been a real estate officer. Shirley was a member of the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed quilting and needlework.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah W. and Rev. Dr. Dennis J. Baker of Newark and Rebecca J. and Timothy P. Claggett of Newark; ten grandchildren, Chad Baker, Nathan Claggett, April Helber, Brian (Kristen) Claggett, Elizabeth (Nate) Humphrey, Ben, David, Olivia, Rosalynne and Sophia Claggett; five great-grandchildren, Alex and Becca Helber, and Annie, Kody and Collin Humphrey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. “Bud” Wolfe, whom she married February 11, 1956 and who passed away in March of 2006.
A special thank you to the nursing staff on Unit 4 at Newark Care and Rehab for the excellent care they gave to Shirley.
