Stephen Smith

Stephen Earle Smitty Smith, 68, of Thornville, died Friday evening April 3, 2015 in Columbus following a brief illness. He was born June 28, 1946 in Columbus, the son of the late Earle and Clara Smith. He was a 1964 graduate of Columbus West H.S., where he distinguished himself by earning the top score in Math and History on the National Merit examination. He served honorably in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era. Smitty Loved Military History, literally traveled all over the world while a member of the Air Force, and in recent years loved boating and spending time on Buckeye Lake. He was a member of the Amvets post at Thornport.He is survived by his wife Debbie Watkins-Smith, beloved canine companion Marshmallow, niece Teri and nephew Brian Ryan; in-laws John & Barb Watkins of Heath, sisters-in-law Barbie (Ken) Koch and Betsy Watkins and MaryAnn Kavan of Heath.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Arlene Ryan.A memorial service, celebrating his life will be held at a later date.Memorials may be directed to the charity of ones choice..
