A funeral service to celebrate the life of Steven D. Harrington, age 63, of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with his daughter, Emily Harrington officiating. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery, with the Licking County Veterans Alliance providing military honors.He was born in Greene County, Ohio on October 24, 1951 to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Edgington) Harrington. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on January 24, 2015.Steven proudly served his country in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was a union representative with AFSCME for over 20 years. He was the chairman of the Licking County Board of Elections; member of the Licking County Democratic Club; and a member of the Licking County Umpires Association. He was an avid sports fan, especially supporting his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He was also an umpire for softball, football and basketball. He enjoyed deer hunting, vegetable gardening, cooking, and was known for making incredible salsa. Most important in his life was spending time with his loving family and friends.Survivors include his loving wife of 20 years, Linda (Shell) Harrington, whom he married July 23, 1994; children, April Harrington of Cincinnati, Steve (Tara) Harrington of Washington Court House and Emily Harrington of Newark; grandchildren, Amber, Keri, Kaci, Courtney and Taylor; great granddaughter, Sophia; siblings, Robert (Christine) Harrington, Patty (Arnold) Miller, Bill (Loretta Potter) Harrington; Tom Harrington and Pam (Terry) Jenkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Lafferty; and one brother, Ronnie Harrington.Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Steven to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Dr. SW, Heath, Ohio 43056. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Tuesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for the Harrington family.
