Steven Donald Mohler

A celebration of life service for Steven Donald Mohler, 61, of Millersport, will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Millersport Schools. A musical and spiritual tribute will be given, honoring a man who dedicated his entire adult life to improving the lives of countless Walnut Township students, through song, music, and drama. Steve passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on October 18, 2018, following a courageous 16 month battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Lancaster, on July 1, 1957, the son of Donald Richard “Don” and Wilma (Childers) Mohler, of Junction City. He was a graduate of Fairfield Union H.S., class of 1975, Capital University, class of 1980, and Full Sail University, Florida, with a Master’s Degree in Media and Technology Education. He was the K-12 Music Specialist in the Walnut Township schools for 35 years. He had also worked for University Music House in Columbus, prior to beginning his teaching career.

He was an active member of the Millersport United Methodist Church and the Millersport Community Theatre, where he directed many shows. He was on the founding board of directors for the Lancaster Chorale, and sang professionally with them for over 25 years. While in Columbus, he participated in the Gallery Players, Players Theatre, and the Popcorn Players, a children’s theatre project.

He is survived by his loving family: which in addition to his parents, includes his wife of 37 years, the former Rita Huffer, whom he married on Oct 3, 1981; his brother Kevin and his wife Cheryl Mohler of Junction City and their family Kyle (Natalie), Ryan (Beth); his sister Karen and her husband Jeff Jones of Millersport and their family Nick and Emily, sister-in-law Deanne Clem and her husband Jeff of Grand Rapids, MI. and their family Emily (Jake), Sarah, and Audrey; many aunts, uncles and cousins; along with many close colleagues from Walnut Township Schools and his church family at Millersport United Methodist Church.

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Millersport United Methodist Church. Private family services and burial will follow on Thursday.

The family prefers that memorials be directed to Team Mohler c/o Commodore Bank, for music scholarships. Envelopes will be available at the services.
