A memorial service for Susan Holt Muench, age 54, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, at Brushy Fork United Methodist Church with Pastors Dean Cole and Deb Dingus officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Oak Cemetery, Georgetown, Maine. Susan passed away at her home on Monday, October 6, 2014 after a short, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born May 7, 1960 in Boston, Massachusetts. Susan graduated from Lexington High School in Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Science degree from The College of Wooster and a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from Indiana University at Bloomington. After initially pursuing a career as a chemist, Susan decided to devote herself entirely to her small farm in the hills near Black Hand Gorge in Licking County. There she raised sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, and maintained an orchard and a large garden. Susan was also a skilled artisan. She constructed cabinets for her house with wood from cherry trees felled on the property, designed and sewed multiple quilts and knitted sweaters from hand-spun sheep wool.She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Betsy (Holt) Muench of Brunswick, Maine; sisters, Cynthia L. Muench of Newark and Joanna Muench of Seattle, Washington; niece, Cara Lee; partner, Jerry Weaver; as well as her dog and at least five cats.She was preceded in death by her father, H.
