A memorial service celebrating the life of Thomas Charles Cheney, 81, of Millersport, will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fireside room at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark Granville Road, Granville, Ohio 43023, with Pastor Gary Kirkpatrick officiating. A memorial gathering and meal will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Thomas was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 6, 1937 to the late James and Myrtle (Dean) Cheney. He passed away at his residence on June 22, 2019. Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, Thomas was a videographer with Columbia Gas for many years, and he received many national awards for his work. He also owned and operated The Big Fisherman, a sporting goods store in Columbus, along with Super Bubble, a power washing business. Thomas was a very talented artist, where his paintings were abstract and portraits. He held numerous shows in downtown Columbus over the years, where he sold many of his paintings. He was a former member of Spring Hills Baptist Church, where he taught a Bible study group. He was also a member of Bassmasters, where he participated in many competitive tournaments, past president of Gasco Club, and enjoyed reading the Bible, golfing, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Susan I. (Thompson) Cheney, whom he married April 7, 1995; children, Cindy (Rod) Montgomery, Penny (Peter) Petrusky, Vicky (John) Ludwig, Michal Cheney, Thomas C. Cheney, Jr., and Kristine Thompson; brother, Barry (Florence) Cheney; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
