A funeral service, celebrating the life of Thomas W. Apple, 78, of Hebron, will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation service, with Pastor Randy Small as celebrant. Tom will be laid to rest in the Kirkersville Cemetery next to his beloved wife Janit at a later date. Tom died peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 7, 2016, at his home with family members at his side. He was born in Versailles, on April 4, 1938, the son of the late Norbert W. and Louise (Lindsey) Apple. He was a graduate of Versailles H.S., and was retired from Newark City Schools. Toms passion was Go-Cart racing. He built engines and raced Go-carts as Apple Racing. He was a devoted member of Family of Faith Christian Church in Newark. He is survived by his loving family: Children Teresa (Randy) Small of Newark, Diana (Eric) Gutridge of Heath, Debbie (Mike) Neff of Strawberry Plains, TN., Todd (Tonya) Helsel of Delbarton, WV., Tim (Robin) Helsel of St. Louisville, Sisters Shirley (Keith) Spitzer of Versailles and Marilyn (George) Riegal of Troy; sisters-in-laws, Carol Apple and Sharon Apple, of Versailles, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janit, daughter Sherry Wright, Son-in-law Rick Wright, his brothers Bill and Harold. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 285 East Main St. in Kirkersville.
