Timothy Earl Kardatzke

June 23, 1948 — September 6, 2018

Tim passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 23, 1948, son of the late Earl and Marian Kardatzke. Tim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jan, along with his daughter Jennifer Conroy, son-in-law Tom and granddaughters Kallie Storm and Molly Ray. He is also survived by his sister Susan Kardatzke Wolfe of Toledo, his niece Lisa Wolfe North and his nephew Jamie Wolfe. Tim grew up in Maumee, Ohio where he graduated from Maumee High School. He was very active in the Order of DeMolay where he served as Master Counselor of Fallen Timbers Chapter. He was also a Boy Scout and took up rifle shooting with his Dad, Earl. Many summer vacations were spent at competitions at Camp Perry, Ohio. Tim and Jan both graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1971. Tim was in ROTC and on the rifle team there. On June 26, 1971, Tim and Jan were married at Prout Chapel on the Bowling Green campus. During the next ten years in Toledo, Tim taught school, umpired baseball, and refereed volleyball. He was also Worshipful Master of Northern Light Lodge #40, Worthy Patron of Maumee Order of the Eastern Star #197 and Dad Advisor to his DeMolay Chapter. In 1983 Tim, Jan and Jennifer packed up all their worldly possessions in a U-Haul and moved to Colorado permanently to begin new adventures. Over the next 35 years Tim climbed over forty 14ers, did 35 State Highpoints, and visited over 30 National Parks. His loves were family, friends, travel and spending as much time hiking and camping as possible. He loved taking cruises to Hawaii and the Caribbean with the family. He and Jan also traveled to Belize, Alaska, and Churchill, Manitoba with friends. We can honor Tim by living life to the fullest as he did. Tim’s legacy is the hundreds of lives he touched and nurtured through his years of teaching, coaching, umpiring, and especially his work with Boy Scout Troop #337 in Broomfield. The Troop recently awarded him their first Lifetime Achievement Award for his 20 years of service to Boy Scouts. Donations in honor of Tim can be made to Troop #337. These donations will go into the Tim Kardatzke High Adventure Scholarship Fund which will help Scouts that want to attend Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico or any of the other high adventure camps around the country.
