A funeral service celebrating the life of Trayquan Maureese Massey, age 18, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Wilson Cemetery.

Trayquan “Tray” was born January 5, 2006 in Newark, Ohio to mother Sophia D. Maerhofer of Newark and  Charles R. Massey III of Columbus. He passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2024 at Licking Memorial Hospital.

Tray was a hardworking, fun loving 18 year old boy whose life was cut short. He loved the outdoors, and, like most boys, he loved fast cars and fishing. He enjoyed sports. He loved his momma and always had a smile. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help another person. He was a special friend to many, both young and old. Tray never knew a stranger and he enjoyed everyone. Tray liked to joke and goof off. Tray had a smile that was bigger and brighter than the moon on the brightest night, and a heart as big as the world. His favorite past time was fishing, baseball, basketball, and he really enjoyed riding four-wheeler. Tray will be loved and missed by everyone and never forgotten. Tray leaves behind many special memories for everyone that knew him.

In addition to his parents, Tray is survived by his sisters, Makayla (Tanner) Bachelor, Amber Maerhofer, Layleeana Maerhofer, and Ceshawna Massey; brothers, Charles “P” Massey, Damaria “D” (Kaylinn) Massey, Charles “JR” Massey, and Decario Massey; nieces, Aspen Bachelor, Hazeley Massey, and Lyric Bentley; aunt, Melissa Miller (Brian Holland); uncles, Christos Bergados, John Newcomb, and Wayne Massey; cousins, Brandi Bourst (Hummel), Jason Fitch (Miller), James Miller, Alexis Miller, Zayden Hummel, and Alex Wilson; grandmother, Donna Miller of Newark and Angela Massey of Columbus; and step-father, Michael J. Maerhofer of Hanover; as well as many close friends that have stuck by the family, especially his mom Sophia, and have been a great source of comfort to her.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dimitrios “Jim” Bergados and Donna J. (Pickrel) Newcomb.

Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Trayquan and his family.
