Valerie Jean Harmon, born on March 1, 1956, in Newark, Ohio, peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on March 12, 2025, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio, in Newark, Ohio. A beacon of love, warmth, and resilience, Valerie's life was a testament to her deep commitment to family, and caring for others.
Valerie dedicated many years of her life to supporting others as a Patient Care Assistant at Licking Memorial Hospital until retirement. She was known for her compassionate nature, while touching countless lives with her kindness and dedication to her profession.
Valerie’s love for life extended beyond her career, embracing simple joys like sitting on the porch to watch the sunset, sewing, and crafting. Her spirit of adventure found expression in her travels to Florida and the exhilarating motorcycle rides alongside her loving partner, Jim Grant.
Valerie's legacy lives on through her beloved family: her devoted loving partner, Jim Grant; her children, April (Ben) Terrill, Angie (Jason) Treadway, Darin (Bob) Rinker-Scarffol, and Franklin (Rachel) Rinker; and her precious grandchildren, whom she was very proud of, Alexandra "Lexi" Treadway, Kyler Zyski, Rosalyn Terrill, Kalleigh Zyski, and Kavin Zyski. She is fondly remembered by her step-grandchildren, Adrian Murphy, Spencer Murphy, and Caleb Heald, and her brother, Kerry (Alice) Proctor. Valerie held a special place in the hearts of her niece, Jodie Grimm, as well as many treasured cousins and dear friends.
Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wendell and Helen Proctor, and her cherished granddaughter, Jasey P. Treadway.
A Memorial Visitation to celebrate Valerie's life will be held at the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service in Newark, OH, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. All friends and family are invited to gather, cherish shared memories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Valerie's memory to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Valerie will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories for all who knew her. Arrangements are under the care of Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service.
