Verna Sammy Zelein, age 93, formerly of Hebron and a resident of Chapel Grove Inn for the past eight years, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Verna was born December 20, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to the late William and Catherine (Ruisinger) Weber.A 1939 graduate of South High School in Columbus, Verna was part owner and Vice President of Newark Electroplating, retiring in 2007. She had also retired from the Hebron Post office in 1982 where she had been employed for 24 years.Verna was a member of the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church where she participated in the Wesleyan Circle. She was a member of the Eagon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1975. She served on the board of Zerger Hall Seniors for nine years and was very active for 47 years in the TWIG at Licking Memorial Hospital, also serving as chairman of the executive board of TWIGS. Verna loved to travel with Freedom Years and served on their board in 1999. She was also a member of the Hebron Historical Society.She is survived by two sons, Mike (Marsha) Zelein of Newark and Chris (Jan) Zelein of Thornville; two grandchildren, Kevin (Nancy) Thompson and Jill (Jeff) Tubaugh; two great-grandchildren, Addison and John; a sister-in-law, Marie Weber of Florida; and a dear friend, Cheri Spoo of Granville.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Zelein, who passed away on February 12, 1967; and by a brother, Robert Weber.Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church, 925 West Main Street, Hebron.
