Vinton Cleo Franks, 93, of Thornville, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Autumn at the Lake Nursing Home. He was born on July 23, 1921 in Thornville, Ohio, son of the late George and Mary (Helser) Franks. Cleo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He retired from Rockwell International. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the Battle of Normandy, and the Battle of the bulge, for which he received the presidential citation. He is survived by his loving family: many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Anna Louise (Courson) Franks on June 25, 2014, sisters Alva Franks, Burdell Lyle, Goldie Leaman, Pearl Broceus and Marjorie May, brother Elza Franks. A funeral service, celebrating Cleos life, will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014, with Pastors Beth Bateson and David Zandt officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.
