Virgil Gutridge

A funeral service celebrating the life of Virgil A. Gutridge, 83, of Etna, will be held on Tuesday April 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, Kirkersville, with burial to follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville, with full military honors.Virgil died Thursday morning, April 7, 2016, in Columbus following a extended illness. He was born in Glenford, on December 4, 1932, the son of the late Stanley and Ruth (Tavener) Gutridge. A graduate of Glenford H.S., class of 1950, Virgil served honorably in the US Air Force From 1950 to 1954. He attended Northrop Aeronautical Institute and served as Director of Aircraft Maintenance for Netjets in Columbus. He was a member of Etna United Methodist Church, and collected classic mustangs, his earliest being a 1966 red convertible. He enjoyed playing euchre and traveling, and has visited all fifty states in America.He is survived by his loving family: wife, Marilyn, daughter Melissa Gutridge, grandchildren Chelsea and Ty List, brother Carl (Ginny) Gutridge of Frazeysburg, sister-in-law Peg Gutridge of New York, and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Ron Gutridge, his brother Meryl Gutridge, and his sister and brother-in-law Margaret (George) Crue.Friends may call at the funeral home, 285 East Main St. (US Rt. 40) in Kirkersville on Monday, April 11, 2016, from 6 until 8 p.m.The family prefers that memorial contributions in his memory be directed to Etna United Methodist Church, 500 Pike St. SW, Etna, Ohio 43018.
