Virgilia Baldo "Gelie" Van Ormer

November 10, 1940 — April 3, 2021

Virgilia Baldo “Gelie” Van Ormer, age 80, of Thornville, finished this life’s journey and moved on to her next one at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at her home following a hard struggle with lung cancer.

Virgilia was born November 10, 1940 in Angola, Indiana to the late Jose Baldo and the late Agnes (Stetler) Baldo Chamberlain.

Gelie spent her entire life giving and helping every person and being she could. She walked the walk and talked the talk. She had phenomenal knowledge and skills that she shared with others regardless of race, sexuality, or religion, without any expectation of compensation. She did this right up until several days before she passed, even while she was in hospice. This is a loss for all that knew her and loved her, as well as a loss for the world.

She is survived by her loving husband, Hank; her daughter, Abbie (Jill) Flushing Green of Vancouver, British Columbia; step-children, Laurie (Jack) Petrich, Donald (Pam) Van Ormer and Scott (Kate) Van Ormer; grandchildren, Kit, Maggie and Henry L. Van Ormer, Tyler (Erin) Van Ormer and Hayleigh Van Ormer; and great-grandchildren, Brantly and Austin.

Hank says that he is going to miss Gelie but he considers himself the luckiest man in the world to have gotten to spend time with her.

According to her wishes, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a humane society of your choice as Gelie was always worried about the helpless animals.

Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service in Thornville is honored to care for Gelie and her family.
