A funeral service celebrating the life of Wayne A. Campbell, age 81, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, 67 North Fifth Street, Newark, with the Rev. John D. Stroup and the Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Wayne was born October 13, 1933 in Newark, Ohio to the late Lewis Edward and Annabelle (Moulton) Campbell. He passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Licking Memorial Hospital.Wayne worked with his father learning the bakery trade and was employed with the Corner Pastry Shop. At the age of 18, Wayne joined the Navy and proudly served his country aboard the U.S.S. Cabot for three years as a cook and baker and had one year of shore duty at Little Creek, Virginia. He served in the United States Navy from November of 1952-November of 1956 and was in the Reserves until 1960.Wayne was employed with his dad at Campbells Pastry on Fifth Street and had also been employed with Independent Dairy as a milk deliveryman, Burke Golf, and delivered bread for Rich-Loaf Bakery. He was employed with Suburban Motor Freight for 16 years as a local truck driver and also had jobs with Ghilonis Market and Brucker and Kishler. He retired in 1995 from Duplex Products where he worked in shipping. Following his retirement, he worked at Louies Pizza, which was originally founded by his father in 1960.A faithful member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newark, Wayne was also a member of the Teamsters Union #637 in Zanesville. Wayne was an accomplished woodworker and spent many happy hours in his workshop, which he named The Shanty, and made many beautiful items including clocks, mirrors, jewelry boxes, shelves and furniture. He enjoyed collecting shot glasses, clocks (which he also repaired) and traveling in the woods and mountains.He is survived by his wife of nearly60 years, Shirley A. (Wiley) Campbell, whom he married on November 20, 1955; three children, Daniel L. (Eva) Campbell, Laura L. (Gene) Triplett and Michelle S. Campbell, all of Newark; three grandchildren, Shawna (Kelly) Noyd of Townsend, Montana and Tyler Triplett and Alex Triplett, both of Newark; great-grandchildren, Keira Leigh Noyd and Reiss Lawrence Noyd; brother, Ronald (Karen) Campbell and Robert (Sue Ann) Campbell, all of Newark; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Romeo, Bowie, Henry and especially Blackjack.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Walter and Paul Campbell; and a sister, Avonelle Willey.Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Campbell family.
