Wayne Irvin Forsythe

A funeral service celebrating the life of Wayne I. Forsythe, age 91, of Thornville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, at the Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with burial to follow in the Zion Ridge Cemetery, Thornville.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 29, at the funeral home, 56 South Main Street in Thornville. The Thornville Masonic Lodge will hold a Masonic Funeral Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Thornville Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, at 7:45 p.m.

Wayne passed away peacefully late Saturday evening, November 23, 2024, in Zanesville, Ohio following a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1933 in Thornville, the son of the late John H. and Lora Belle (Winegardner) Forsythe. He was a graduate of Thornville High School, class of 1951, and then went to work at the Shelley Company before his service in the US Army, 42nd Paratrooper Division during the Korean Conflict. He then went to work for Kaiser Aluminum in Heath where he worked for the next 30 years. He also farmed and worked with Charlie Boring at the Boring Funeral Home.

An active member of the Thornville community, he was a member of the Thornville V.F.D., served one term as a township trustee for Thorn Township, and was a 60-year member of the Thornville Masonic Lodge, along with membership in Thornville Chapter #156, Order of Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron in 1989.  He was a member of Thornville United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Amvets Post #51 and the Somerset American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Janice (Stalter) Forsythe, whom he married on May 9, 1953; his daughters, Sheryl (Greg) Hanna and Kim Forsythe; four grandchildren, 12 great and 5 great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers and two sisters, along with his son, Ron Forsythe, who passed in April of 2024.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to Genesis Hospice.
