William Fred Creech

A funeral service celebrating the life of William Fred Creech, age 90, of Thornville, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13, in the mausoleum chapel at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, West Virginia where military honors will be observed. Pastor Jim Addy will officiate. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service.William was born April 23, 1924 in Cabin Creek, West Virginia to the late Joseph B. and Nancy (Caudell) Creech. He passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home.William proudly served in the 5th Armored Division of the United States Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Three Bronze Stars. He retired from Rockwell International following 31 years of service. He was an avid fan of auto racing and baseball and enjoyed gardening, cars and, most of all, his family.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis V. (Songer) Creech, whom he married September 10, 1947; five children, Shawn (Jerry) Rice of Thornville, Lynn (Wayne) Myers of Dayton, TN, Harriet (Jerry) Campbell of Lancaster, David (Joann) Creech and Pat Creech, all of Thornville; eleven grandchildren, Matt (Sheri) Rice, Shannon (Jerome) Fuller, Jeremy (Melanie) Myers, Aaron Myers, Brandy (Dusty) Schorr, Ashley (Casey) Rainier, Cara (Greg) Mounts, Joe (Michelle) Campbell, Eric (Laura) Creech, Zach Creech and Seth Creech; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilmer (Wanda) Creech of Alum Creek, WV and Alvin (Joyce) Creech of Avon Park, FL; sister, Wanda Kaneday of Winfield, WV; sisters-in-law, Bette Creech of Alum Creek, WV, Betty Creech of Thornville, Rita (Charlie) Lynch of Clendenin, WV, Donna Matheny of South Charleston, WV and Jane Cottrell of Clendenin, WV; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Nancy) Songer of Sissonville, WV; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Homer, Arnold, Conrad, Ralph, Douglass, Eugene and Donald Creech; and by a sister, Ruth Flowers.A special thanks to Gertie Camechis and Ralph and Louie Bontrager for their friendship, kindness and support.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or FairHoPe Hospice.The Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service is honored to care for the Creech family.
