William Joseph “Bill” Harris, age 83, of Hebron, passed away at Altercare Newark North on February 28, 2021, one day after his birthday. Bill was born February 27, 1938 in Crooksville, Ohio to the late Cyril Britt and Thelma (Roush) Harris.
Bill was a graduate of Crooksville High School and was an excellent athlete in both football and baseball. He retired from Rockwell International. Bill loved playing the guitar and singing and visited area nursing homes to entertain the residents. He also visited nursing homes and entertained at other events as “Bashful the Clown” and enjoyed making balloon animals for people. Due to Bill’s dementia, the music, the memories, and the laughter faded away but Bill will always be remembered for making people laugh and telling “dad jokes” that made everyone groan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn “Jean” (LeRoy) Harris; sons, Michael W. (Eva) Harris and Gregory L. Harris; grandchildren, Brandon (Misty) Harris and Megan (Brent) Coffey; step-granddaughter, Emily Crompton; great-grandchildren, Addison, Anna, Emerson, Grayson and Maya; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Harris.
The family will observe a private funeral service with burial in Kirkersville Cemetery.
