A funeral service celebrating the life of William Harry Magley, age 91, a lifetime resident of Kirkersville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, at the Kirkersville Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Jim Hall officiating. Burial will take place in Kirkersville Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, at the funeral home, 285 East Main Street in Kirkersville.
William was born September 12, 1932 in Newark, Ohio to the late Harry W. and Mildred (Peck) Magley. He passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Kirkersville High School. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he attended Franklin University. Bill retired from Lucent Technologies, Inc. (the former Western Electric) where he worked his entire career. Bill was a member of the Kirkersville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his roses, and spending winters in Florida. He was extremely talented and built the home on Route 16 from scratch where he raised his family. He was known to be able to fix anything. Bill loved the Kirkersville community. Having lived his whole life in Kirkersville, he was known to say that the water in Kirkersville was why people lived such a long life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara M. (Kirk) Magley, whom he married July 12, 1953; three daughters, Karen (John) Truex, Carol (Robert) Turnquist, and Connie (Todd) Copley; grandchildren, Katie, Carrie, Matthew, Kellie, Kirk, and Sara; great-grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Connor, Carly, Clint, Eloise, Weston, and one on the way; brother, Charles Magley; sister, Patricia Ketner; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Copley.
