A funeral celebrating the life of Woodrow “Woody” Holbert, 94, of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Steve Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Woody was born in Nashport, Ohio on September 20, 1927 to the late Louis and Ines (Mayle) Holbert. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on February 11, 2022. Woody proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was a mechanic for many years. He enjoyed playing jazz on his guitar, reading, following current events, but most important, was the time he spent with his loving family and friends. Survivors include his granddaughter, Shannon M. Holbert; nephew, Glenn (Ida) Holbert; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Holbert; son, Larry Holbert; daughter, Sherrill Holbert; and brothers and sisters, Lou, Mary, Ruth, Dorothy, Myrtle, Floyd, Junior and Esther. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Woody to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
