Richard "Rick" E. Mehl

A visitation to celebrate the life of Richard E. “Rick” Mehl, 78, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 179 Granville Street, Newark. Rick was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on March 1, 1945 to the late Lawrence E. and Christina L. (Plumbley) Mehl. He passed away at his residence on September 19, 2023. Prior to retirement, Rick managed the Newark Tire Center for over 20 years. He was a life member of the Newark Eagles Lodge; life member of the Newark VFW; and was a member of the American Legion Post #85. Rick enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and was a wheelstanding exhibitionist. Most important was the time he spent with his family and friends, and will be missed by everyone that knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Carol S. (Thompson) Mehl, whom he married June 14, 1962; daughter, Tonja (Ken) Forsberg; son, Clifford (Elizabeth) Mehl; sisters, Anne Wainwright and Lena Mehl; grandchildren, Justin (MacKenzie), Ryan (Stefanie), Tyler (Jessica), Alicia, Lora (Whalen), Greg (Teri) and RJ; great grandchildren, Jalen, Riley, Logan, Ryan, Andrew, Abigail, Nathan, Gavin and Kyndall; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Kathy and Jenny; and brother, Gary.
