Shirley Ann Laymon

A graveside service for Shirley Ann Laymon, age 85, of Newark, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Due to Covid-19 concerns, please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Shirley was born September 28, 1935 in Newark, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Frances (Powell) Rickus. She passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Newark. A busy homemaker, Shirley was also employed with PIME (St. Edward’s/St. Leonard’s) as a cook and catered for 30 years. She married the love of her life, Richard A. Laymon, and they celebrated their 67 ^th wedding anniversary on July 8.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by seven children, Margaret (Frank) Tornichio of North Port, Florida, Lawrence (Susan) Laymon of Timmonsville, South Carolina, Thomas (Linda) Laymon of Newark, Mark Laymon, Jay Laymon, Kim Laymon Metheny, and Charles (Jodi) Laymon of Newark, and raised two grandchildren, Dawnell and Tisha. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Mary Miller of Newark; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, John Laymon, Auston Laymon and Tyler Laymon; a daughter-in-law, Lorrie Laymon; and two sisters, Betty Long and Maxine Kentsler.
